Mechatronics Engineer

Job Description

Take unmanned surface vessels, ground vehicles, and robotic platforms from design and fabrication through integration and field testing. Cover mechanical design, electronics, and control for defence and maritime customers. Work from CAD and workshop build through harbour and sea trials, not just simulation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design mechanical linkages, brackets, and couplings that connect actuators to throttle, shift, steering, and other control mechanisms
  • Design and build sensor masts and mounting structures for radar, cameras, lidar, antennas, and GNSS, accounting for load, wind, vibration, and field of view
  • Design enclosures, electronics housings, cable glands, and weatherproofing for marine and outdoor environments
  • Carry out fabrication and assembly: cutting, drilling, welding coordination, sheet-metal work, machining coordination, and 3D printing
  • Choose materials and fasteners suited to the environment, including marine-grade aluminium, SS316, composites, and corrosion protection
  • Do basic engineering calculations for torque, force, stress, and tolerances, and use FEA where needed
  • Prepare manufacturing drawings with GD&T and work with fabricators and machine shops
  • Select, size, and integrate actuators such as stepper, servo, BLDC and DC motors, linear actuators, and gearboxes
  • Install and wire sensors, compute, and power systems; build wiring harnesses and power distribution
  • Interface microcontrollers and embedded boards with onboard computers over CAN, RS-485, UART, I2C, SPI, and Ethernet
  • Implement manual override, emergency stop, and failsafe mechanisms
  • Take systems from workshop integration through harbour and sea trials

Candidate Requirements

  • B.E./B.Tech in Mechatronics, Mechanical, Electrical, Electronics, Instrumentation, or Robotics; 0-1 year experience (2025/2026 pass-outs welcome)
  • Strong fundamentals in mechanics, machine design, kinematics, and strength of materials
  • Proficiency in at least one CAD tool (SolidWorks, Fusion 360, CATIA, or Creo)
  • Understanding of motors, drivers, sensors, and basic control systems (PID, open vs. closed loop)
  • Hands-on experience with fabrication, prototyping, or workshop tools
  • Basic programming in C/C++ or Python for microcontrollers
  • Working knowledge of electronics tools (multimeter, oscilloscope, soldering, power supplies)
  • Indian nationality required; background verification may apply for defence projects

Good to Have

  • Robotics project or competition experience (SAE BAJA, Robocon, e-Yantra, drone, rover, or AUV teams)
  • Exposure to ROS / ROS 2
  • Knowledge of pneumatics or hydraulics
  • Experience with robotic arms, mobile robots, drones, or UGV/USV platforms
  • Familiarity with PCB design (KiCad, Altium) or PLCs
  • Understanding of IP ratings, vibration isolation, and environmental testing

Knowledge Requirement

  • SolidWorks / Fusion 360 / CATIA / Creo
  • GD&T / FEA / Machine Design / Mechanism Design
  • Linkage Design / Mast Design / Enclosure Design
  • Stepper / Servo / BLDC / DC Motors / Linear Actuators
  • Sheet Metal / Fabrication / Welding / 3D Printing / Prototyping
  • Wiring Harness / PID Control / Embedded Systems
  • Arduino / STM32 / ESP32
  • CAN / RS-485 / UART / I2C / SPI / Ethernet
  • C / C++ / Python
  • Multimeter / Oscilloscope / Soldering Tools
